Biodiesel From
Algae Research
While algae
has long been a major part of the underwater ecosystem, it has
recently emerged as a dark horse candidate as quite possibly
providing the alternate fuel universe with the possibility of
being a major part of the above water world. No, algae hasn't
figured out how to survive in the desert, but the ability to
convert biodiesel from algae may finally provide society with a
safe alternative to gasoline and allow us to be free on an
excessive dependency on oil. Also, a side benefit is that algae
found in sewage may be utilized for conversion essentially
utilizing discarded sewage as a fuel source. Certainly finding
sewage is easier that finding, drilling and refining
oil!
Probably the most well known of
the biodiesel from algae processing companies is Greenfuels
Technologies which has raised several millions of dollars in
private equity investment funds in order to expand their
conversion work and have the work yield positive results. As of
right now, Green fuels progress is still in the very early
stages and is still a few years away from its maximum
potential.
This should be expected as the
world of biodiesel from algae research has always been
performed in a very limited capacity. This type of research is
more suited to start up companies than established energy
giants, but if a small company can develop a strong biodiesel
from algae formula ( algal oil ), then the company will not be
"small" very much longer. In fact, it may become an energy
giant as well.
Hopefully, companies that are
involved in this type of research will continue to receive
private investment funds as this will invariable lead to the
answer to the question "Will biodiesel from algae truly work"?
Hopefully, the ultimate answer to this will be in the
affirmative and the days of big oil will be behind us
all.
